What is a Page?

It might seem like a simple question, but for printing we define a page as one printed side of a sheet. For example, a single A4 sheet has two pages (front and back). If that A4 sheet is folded in half, it becomes four A5 pages (two pages per folded sheet, front and back).

What are internals?

In book printing, the internal pages are often called the book block, and differ from the cover and is set up in their own set of files.
If you were to open a book with a cover, page 1 is always on the right-hand side. The left-hand side is the inside of the cover. From there, pages continue in sequence: page 2 is on the left, page 3 on the right, page 4 on the left, and so on as you turn each page.

What is the Cover?

The cover is the printed outer section that is bound to the book block. It can be printed single-sided or double-sided. It’s important to understand that the inside front cover becomes the left-hand page when the book is first opened, with page 1 always starting on the right-hand side as the first page of the book block. Because of this, the cover must be set up correctly to ensure the internal pages flow in the right order. This is easily achieved by using the correct custom template for your project which can be created at the below link.

What are endsheets?

We can saddle-stitch books in any custom sizes, ranging from A6 to A4, available in both portrait and landscape formats.

What is the saftey margin?

Saddle-stitched books are perfect for shorter publications, typically ranging from 8 to 64 pages, depending on paper thickness. At Printbooks, we can saddle stitch up to 200 pages with 80gsm stock; however, for higher page counts, alternative binding methods may provide a more durable and professional finish.

what is page creep?

Saddle-stitched books pair beautifully with all our stock options. Please keep in mind that uncoated and recycled stocks may show a little extra cracking along the folded edges.

Can you square the spine?

Yes we can produce saddle-stitched books with a squared spine, reducing page spring and giving the books a more refined, professional finish. Please note that this must be requested, and we don't automatically square every project.
